2023 Reiki Training

Reiki Training with Loki and Victoria started in 2018.  Having been a Reiki practitioner for many years, Loki decided that a partnership in teaching seemed appropriate.  So, we began.

For new student this is wonderful news.  Now, we ring the years of experience that Loki has combined with the youthful, energetic personality of Victoria that guarantees success for the student.

In no time, a strong, solid and easy to understand outline was created for a two-day Reiki I & II certification program.  Potential students are asked to get a Reiki Session with either Victoria or Loki prior to deciding on the course.  We feel that this allows the students to see first- hand what they will be learning and how it is applied in a session.  This also allows the student to experience how Reiki feels as a receiver before they try to being the channeler.

The program runs something like this:  We gather for two separate days.  We usually start about 10 AM and run until about 3 PM on day one.  During this time the student learns the history of Reiki, what the chakras do and why Reiki works on this energy pattern and they receive the Level I Attunement.  The student can now treat themselves.

The second day of teaching is usually the next week.  This gives the student time to digest this new energy and practice on themselves.  In Reiki, do Self first!  During week two, the students get the symbols that are part of the Reiki experience.  They do a hands-on with other students and gain confidence by practicing in a group healing session.  Level II allows the student to now treat other people.  We offer support to students who want to start their own Reiki practice or community.

Certificates are given for both levels.  When the students finish the training with Loki and Victoria they are invited to join the Reiki Share which the ladies host on a monthly basis, when space is available.  This allows new students an opportunity to use their new skills in a safe, comfortable place.

The fee for both Level I and II Reiki training is $400.  We now take Venmo.  For more information and to sign up, call Loki 443-980-2018 or Victoria 301-385-1354.

Fall 2018 Stained Glass Classes at The Art Barn

The Art Barn:  Update for 2018

The Art Barn is a brand-new name for our stained-glass class location at Sanctuary.  Two years ago, Loki decided it was time to give the barn a “face lift”.  She loves her color Barney Purple and went with it for the project.  The barn is almost 100 years old and it took twice the amount of paint that the painters had estimated.  Actually, the painters told her the paint was now supporting the barn!   This made her feel better.  Everyone now comments on the purple barn.

Loki has been doing stained glass for about 40 + years now.  She had a studio called Kaleidoscope for almost 25 years.  She gave up commission “one-of-a-kind” work and went into fusing dishes, objects of art, and her favorite Nature’s Music wind chimes.  She creates on a daily basis.  She says to create is essential to her wholeness.  I think this is true for lots of people.

At the present time, the Art Barn is considering hosting other artists to do their crafts on the nights when the glass classes are not in progress. The idea is to share the space and keep the entire Art Barn alive and well and happy.  Workshops will do that we think.

In the meantime, Beginning and Continuing glass classes are taught by Loki on Tuesday and Thursday nights for seven weeks starting September 11. Spring classes will pick up in May 2019. The Art Barn and some of the land will be available for other events throughout the summer.

Fall is fast approaching. The Art Barn has been electrically updated to accommodate all the activities that are currently taking place.  We have three sessions of instruction currently running for September 2018 series.

If interested in using the space or taking a class in stained glass, give us a call.

News from Baa: Tipi coming… read all about it!

I would like to write about current feelings on the Tipi here at Sanctuary. I really don’t know where to start. I recently heard a quote that said, “you think you know the story, but to really know, you must go back to the beginning …”

Almost 20 years ago we returned from a trip to Sedona Arizona. We, that being Loki, Smiling Bear and me. We had become enchanted with the Native American  spirituality and ways of living now and before. Loki decided it was time to get a Tipi. So, we did.

We had the best possible Tipi you could ever imagine including incredible one-of-a-kind designer artwork on the inside panels. Our flaps were decorated, our flags were flying. We had the winds in the right directions. We had a giant rendering of a bear painted on the cover of our Tip door. At that time, I thought the Tipi was ready for the Smithsonian Institute. And the Native American Museum was just openingJ. Truly it was grand and so peaceful. Every kind of ceremony that you could imagine was done in the Tipi in the past 18 years.

Now 18 years later and four tipi covers later, the Tipi stands naked and ever so embarrassed! As Elders, Smiling Bear and Loki needed to make a decision about whether to replace it or not. Smiling Bear immediately said “yes.” Loki needed to sit with it. And, so she did.

A few days later Loki walked to the land that was first dedicated to the Tipi from Great Spirit all those years ago. She saw it happen again in her mind. The leaves falling exactly where the Tipi stands. Loki called to the winds of Mariah, then she waited. She said show me a sign. She waited. She is always looking for an omen to help guide her. When the winds blew the remains of the Tipi high into the air she smiled. She walked down to the creek to do some cleanup. Loki picked up some Styrofoam and debris that quickly filled her arms. It was then that she had a clear vision of what she is now missing in her life. She misses a “buddy”. Someone who likes to do what she likes to do and is open and available to play. Wow, how does one manifest that one?

While sitting in her swing Loki recognized the stillness while swinging and resting. And she felt called to the Tipi again and said “can you do it again?” You know me, Mariah, three is the charm.” Again, she smiled, inside and out, and just waited. Within minutes the winds blew harder than they had the first time. Loki smiled again. She gathered herself together and started towards the medicine wheel.

That little girl in her, the one they now call Loki, is because of the coyote and his medicine that she interprets for some. She sometimes can be very bold that way but always with good intention. Loki turned to the center pole of the Medicine Wheel, did a Namaste bow to Great Spirit, and walked back to the house. She smiled at Smiling Bear and said let’s get a new Tipi and do it right. A new Tipi will be forthcoming at Sanctuary in the near future.
